Dog Training Methods Don’t Matter If You Make This Number 1 Dog Training Mistake

It doesn’t matter what dog training methods you use.

I’ve seen people do it with a clicker. I’ve seen it with cookies. I’ve seen it with remote collars. There is one dog training mistake that I see people make with their dogs every day.

It always starts with these words. “Look! That’s what he does. Every time”! The arms go up in exasperation and then the finger points at the dog for emphasis. “See!”

Hmm, interesting…dog training methods

If you’ve been following my posts here you know that I believe very strongly that dog training has very little to do with what type of leash, collar, or cookie you use. It has to do with a mind set. 99% of the time your dog will do what you expect him to do.  If you expect him to act a certain way I can promise you that he will. The absolute biggest mistake you can make is to just throw up your hands and complain about him. Fix it!

Yes, some of this may be unconscious on your part. Inside you may just be worried that your dog will screw up. Just thinking about your dog acting up in and of itself can cause your dog to behave badly.

Visualization techniques, practicing and deciding that your dog IS going to behave, no matter what, is the only way to actually make it happen.

So forget about which dog training methods you use.

And the next time that your dog frustrates you don’t throw up your hands and throw in the towel. Take the opportunity to teach him something and prove to him that you believe that he can do it.
